The Seychelles is located seven degrees south of the equator. The archipelago of
Seychelles consists of 115 islands with a land mass of 455 sq km of land. Mahe’
being largest of all the islands.
The Seychelles features a tropical marine climate that is humid; cooling down during
the southeast monsoon season (late May to September). The warmer season is during
the northwest monsoon which is (March to May). The Seychelles Islands lies out side
of the cyclone belt, so severe storms are rare.
The inner islands are a group of granitic, narrow coastal strips, rocky and hilly;
outer islands are made up of coral, flat and elevated reefs. The islands are made
up of 46 granitic and about 69 coralline islands the larger islands are inhabited
and many of the smaller islands are uninhabited.
The Seychelles natural recourses are fish, copra, cinnamon trees. Population of
the Seychelles is estimated at 82,000 people.
The Seychelles is a melting pot of culture made of French, African, Indian, Chinese,
and Arab. The principal languages spoken are Creole, English & French.
The predominant religions practiced in the Seychelles are Roman Catholic, Anglican,
Hindu, and Muslim.
Seychelles Independence from the UK was 29 June 1976 (which is also celebrated as
national holiday in the Seychelles. Also Constitution day which was on the 18 of
June 1993 the legal system is based on English common law and French civil law.
